Last week, Foundation and KS1 had their Science day to celebrate ‘Science Week’. They did a carousel of activities going round all of the teachers, they made stomp rockets, helicopter seeds, catapulted objects, made bubble snakes, used balloon rockets and made slime! The final part was watching the coke and Mentos experiment! See the website for a gallery of photos. Here are the children’s opinions: Lucia: The coca cola experiment was my favourite because it went really high in the air! Jake: The balloon rocket race was really fun. Bonayon: The bubble snakes were fun because you had to blow really hard, then the bubbles came out. Chester: I liked making slime because we used our finger to stir it. Tilly: I liked the helicopter seeds because we went on our tiptoes and they spun round. Sienna: The stomp rockets, when you stepped on them they flew. Henry: I loved everything! Umaima: I loved firing the catapult, the pompom went the furthest. Rafi: My favourite activity was the catapult because I could not believe how high the pom poms could go. Gagan: I enjoyed being able to make my own helicopter. Neve: My favourite was the coke and Mentos because I loved watching it explode. Fenn: I really liked making the balloons fly. Aiden: I really liked making slime. Emily: Bubbles in Year 1 was really good. I don't know how some children made them so good. Noah: I liked the stamp rocket as mine hit the ceiling. Molly: Bubbles was my favourite and also my least favourite as I got really messy. Lower KS2 had a Science day too where they linked it to the topic ‘Time’ and designed and built a farm of the future, made a water clock, investigated the life cycle of a frog and researched and designed posters about dinosaur extinction. Here are some quotes from the Year 3 and 4 children: 'We played a game to learn the life cycle of a frog. It was great fun' - Evie 'We had to research dinosaurs using the Ipads' - Ousman ' We learnt how they told the time in the past. It was really interesting.' - Theo 'I enjoyed designing a farm of the future. It was good fun being an inventor.' – Kehara Upper Key Stage Two had a carousel of activities ranging from making a pendulum to parachutes, making a clock and researching Albert Einstein. They too finished their day with the coke and Mentos experiment. Some quotes from Year 5: Freddie: On Science day we learned what Greek water clocks were. The Greeks used them for big events like the theatre to time speeches. Next year I would like to learn about how fish breathe underwater. Maddison: I liked the aeroplane because we got to go outside and fly it. Next year I would like to learn about human eyes. Fatoumata: I enjoyed making the pendulum. I learned how to make it and the features of it. When you put more weight on it went a little bit faster. I would like to learn about light next. Amelia: I most enjoyed learning about Albert Einstein because I found out a lot of interesting facts. I learnt that he married his cousin. I would like to learn about the human eye. Jack: I enjoyed when we made the Ancient Greek clock because it was really exciting to see how long it took the bell to fall into the water, and it was a hard challenge. I learnt that the Greeks actually used time.
