We are proud and privileged to have such a committed and hard-working Governing Body who work in conjunction with the Headteacher, offering a strategic role in respect of the development of the school. Meetings are held throughout the course of the school year; sometimes we meet as a whole Governing Body, but we also work within different committees, focussing on specific aspects of school life. The committees are as follows:
- Curriculum Committee
- Finance Committee
- Premises Committee
- PPPD Committee (Pupils, Parents, Personnel and Discipline)
Our current members are as follows:

Governors’ Profiles
Frances Duck – Chair
I value greatly my association with Hanslope School, which spans a number of years and several roles. I have two children, both of whom attended the school, I was a classroom assistant for a brief spell, involved with the PTA, and a governor. A resident of the village for nearly twenty years, I am very proud of the school and particularly its success in providing a happy, friendly and caring learning environment for the children of our community.
Maria Madeley
My name is Maria Madeley and I have been a parent governor since November 2004. I intend to renew my term as a governor as I am truly proud to be part of a team which works so well together to achieve the best for the children at Hanslope.
I have lived in the village for over 30 years and have two children at Hanslope; my eldest is in his last year and we are at the exciting and daunting time of his life, in considering which secondary school for September 2009. I went to Hanslope School as a child and have seen many changes, and anticipate many more, but above all, it is very clear that the views of children and their carers are important to the successful running of this school.
Martin Small
I have been a governor for 4 years at Hanslope and for 6 years at another school in Milton Keynes. My wife has worked at Hanslope School for over 10 years as a Teaching Assistant, and our three sons all attended the school before going on to the Radcliffe School and then Higher Education. I am Chair of the Premises Committee, and sit on other committees, including Finance, where I am able to apply some of the skills I have built up from nearly 30 years service with Milton Keynes Council.
Helen Hurt
I have lived in Hanslope for the last eight years and have two children currently at Hanslope Primary School. My background is in education, but I joined the governing body as a parent governor in order to have a real say in the running of the school, and to give something meaningful back. I am usually to be found in one or other of the playgrounds, enjoying the 3 o’clock rain, like all other parents!
Nigel Stacey
My involvement with Hanslope School began with hosting farm visits and barn dances! I became a member of the parents’ association culminating in the year of my chairmanship with the Fun Day which had a farming theme and was opened by Jack Woolley from The Archers.
I became a parent governor when my children were at school, and have remained ever since. I am currently Chairman of the Finance Committee and Vice Chairman of the Governing Body.
Carol Hayward
My name is Carol Hayward and I have served on the Governing Body for the past 18 months as a Community Governor.
My background is in education having been a teacher, deputy head, and headteacher, over the course of some 36 years. Now that I’m retired, I am thoroughly enjoying being able to support my local school as a voluntary helper with the younger glasses and as a Governor.
Nicolette Green
I have been a parent governor since March 2009. My eldest child is at the school and I have two younger children who will join the school soon. I have always lived in the area with the past 10 years in Hanslope. I am a busy mum at home and in recent years have been closely involved in Hanslope Pre-school, having been on the committee in various roles since 2004. I am very excited and honoured to now be a part of Hanslope School. Previously I have owned and managed a children’s nursery and for many years I was a Regional Designer for a national housebuilder. I want to use all of my experiences to ensure that Hanslope School continues to be a great place for children to learn and a happy and fun place to be.
